Wordpress blogs are continiously used by Spammers to add their spam using the comment blogs and now these guys use automated scripts which are also called as Black Hat Scripts to add comments to wordpress based blogs automatically and in huge quantities.

Automattic Kismet in short called as ‘Akismet’ is a service which offers differentiation between real comments and spams based on previous history. If some comment is marked as SPAM by the blog owner, Akismet blacklists the website & the commentor based on name, IP and email address.

Login to your wordpress admin panel at yourblog.com/wp-admin/ and click on Plugins option and click on ‘Activate’ to activate. Once you click on this you will be asked to enter the ‘WordPress.com API key ‘ which you can get from your wordpress.com account. Just signup for free at wordpress.com for a account and get a ‘WordPress.com API key’, enter it in your blog’s admin panel and the Akismet plugin starts working.

If you feel that some comment is not a real one and may be SPAM, you can ‘Mark as SPAM’ and move the comment to Akismet Spam section where all the Spams are automatically moved and if you want you can recover any specific comment or Delete all.

Its very important to deal Spam very smartly and not approve any comments you recieve on your blog without checking out if they are real or not, you can even copy paste the comment’s text and search in google to find if this is a automated comment with the same message posted on multiple blog’s because approving this can add duplicate content on your blog and get you penalized.
